Colum Whelan
Managing DirectorColum is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, having qualified in 1990. He gained over 15 years experience in Irish business, such as Irish Biscuits ,Bewley’s , Digital and Sharptext, before forming a Management Accounting practice in 1995. This business flourished and is now Guardian Management Accounting.
He was president of The Dublin and District Branch of CIMA in 2006. He has also been Chairman of the Members in Practice Committee of CIMA from 2000 - 2006. In addition he represented CIMA on the CCABI Taxation Committee in 2005/6.
He is a member of the Networking Group Business Network International - BNI (www.bnifitzwilliam.com) and has been chapter director on three occasions.
Colum acts as non executive director for a number of Guardian’s clients, and is also treasurer of the Volleyball Association of Ireland and Glenalbyn Tennis Club.
Colum has a passion for cars, but was so taken by Robert Kiosaki’s book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, he went out and bought a second hand Nissan Maxima and is still driving it 7 years later!-
Philip Marmion ACA
Senior ConsultantPhilip has a Degree in Accounting & Finance from DCU & is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland. He qualified in 1995 having worked in Simpson Xavier in the Insolvency section and subsequently in several SME organisations. In 1997 Philip moved to Oce Ireland, the Irish subsidiary of a Dutch multinational as Financial Controller implementing a new accounting system & internal controls. In 2000 he moved to Armitage Shanks (Irl) Ltd, the Irish subsidiary of a US quoted company. In late 2001 he joined Beverly Smyth / Nat Ross as group financial controller and was involved in several successful acquisitions & mergers culminating in the sale of the enlarged BOND group to Veris plc.
In June 2007 Philip joined Guardian & his expertise is in corporate restructuring, internal control implementation & working closely with business owners to develop & migrate Management Information Systems to provide them with the information they need to run their business efficiently. Philip has carried out several assignements in the areas of liquidations, corporate fraud, and is currently studying Forensic Accounting.

Yong Sheng Li ACCA
Accountant
Li is an Associate Member of ACCA(Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), having qualified in 2007. Li joined Guardian in 2008 from our Associated audit practice Brophy Gillespie as a senior accountant. Li has been worked for FGS where he studied and qualified during 2006 - 2008. Li specialises in technical areas of audit, preparing statutory accounts, bookkeeping, vat, paye and corporation tax and advices the practice on all technical accounting matters.
Li sees things as black and white, and has pleasure telling the revenue when they are wrong and quotes acts, laws and sub paragraphs for a hobby. -
Avril Shortt ACCA
Accountant
Avril joined the practice as a part qualified accountant in 2007 from a fund management company, and qualified in May 2009. She provides accounting support to many clients in the area of accounting and Management Accounts.
Avril is a keen traveller and likes to tick challenges off for fun. -
Evelyn Whelehan AITI
Senior Consultant
Evelyn is the longest standing member of the firm, having joined from Oniva in 2001. Evelyn is an Accounting Technician, and her particular strength is in the area of payroll and incomplete records.
Evelyn is a keen GAA fan, a member of Faughs GAA club, and her pride and joy is her Merc Coupe. She loves Friday’s and her favourite movie is ‘As good as it gets’. -
Eoin Philips
AccountantEoin is currently sitting his final ACCA exams, with 4 papers to go. He joins us from a medium sized solicitors practice where he was assistant accountant.
Eoin has comprehensive knowledge of solicitors accounts, and is proficient in the use of the Keyhouse SAM package. We recommend Keyhouse to solicitors and through Eoin we offer a totally outsourced accounting service for those solicitors wishing to remove themselves from the hassle of administration.

Robert King ACMA
ConsultantRobert is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He has over fourteen years of experience in both industry and practice gained in Ireland, the UK and Germany.
Prior to working for Guardian Management Accounting, Robert worked in the technology sector before leaving Ireland and pursuing other interests in Germany. On his return to Ireland, he commenced employment with Guardian Management Accounting where he worked as a consultant from 2003 - 2008 but then moved to a part-time basis to pursue an opportunity outside accounting. Robert possesses strong computer skills which have been of great use in some of our larger projects, where often, accounts had not been prepared for many years and accurate, up to date figures are required.
